Kucsora Márta

The abstract art of painter Márta Kucsora is monumental.

At first glance, it seems like an impulsive sprinkle of paint, and it’s clear that the compositions made up of different layers of paint have a quality of the incidental to them, but if we take a closer look, conscious design and a meticulous creative process becomes evident in the final artworks. This duality of the playful interactions of the laws of physics and a strict design concept results in a vibrant effect that makes these paintings undeniably charming and seductive.

Not unlike the abstract masters of the era following the Second World War (including Simon Hantai, Georges Mathieu and Sam Gilliam), Márta Kucsora integrates physical forces in her art and creative process - gravity and related physical interactions especially. It is the latest experiment in the revolutionary "brush-free" painting movement of the 1950s, a style that synthesizes paints and colors on the canvas. As a result, we see the the contemporary face of lyric abstraction and gesture painting.

Kucsora’s work can be seen at a number of Hungarian and international exhibitions, her latest standalone exhibition opened in the Postmasters Gallery in New York City. In December, her paintings can be seen in the Budapest Kunsthalle and Kálmán Makláry Fine Arts.
