We founded S/ALON BUDAPEST with the clear mission of bringing the best of domestic and international brands and designers to an understanding home audience while also providing a deserving platform for newcomers and intriguing fresh faces of the Hungarian design scene. To this end we are announcing the Wendy Morrison Design Competition, inviting talented professionals to showcase their unique style and vision in the form of an extraordinary visual concept. The winning concept will be brought to life as the entry installation at the exhibition. The marvellous rugs of Wendy Morrison

After establishing herself as a freelance fashion designer, Wendy Morrison decided to make her mark on another branch of the industry: the beautiful world of rugs. The Scottish designer quickly rose to prominence among fellow architects and interior stylists, and today her distinctive brand of bespoke designer rugs is available to a global audience. Wendy’s signature style mixes her background in fashion design with impressions of far-away lands, exotic faunas with a hint of maximalism.

We chose Wendy Morrison’s rugs as the theme of the competition on grounds of our shared values. The utmost attention to detail, the care with which each product is created and their unmistakable visual impact make Wendy Morrison’s work all the more relevant to our exhibition. Consequently, each submitted design concept must incorporate one of the handcrafted statement rugs by Wendy Morrison as its centerpiece.

Our ambition is to erect a distinctive entry interior that has an immediate, long-lasting impression on visitors and fellow professionals alike, inviting them to further inspect, explore and embrace the peculiar atmosphere evoked by Wendy’s rug and the surrounding space.

Application

If you’d like to apply to the Wendy Morrison Design Competition, please read the competition details and conditions carefully (download the document by clicking here), then, along with the mandatory documentation and all the necessary elements of your design concept, send the submission form to our email address!

Applications will be shortlisted by the S/ALON BUDAPEST team and the winner chosen by Wendy Morrison herself based on the concepts’ quality, standards and suitability. The winning applicant will be given the opportunity to fully realize their visual concept at S/ALON BUDAPEST 2021 with help from our team and our partnering design brands. The winning applicant will also be invited for the full length of the exhibition to represent their work.
