Outdoor furniture design

Trends, materials, styles

Let us help you to prepare for the garden season with premium design solutions and ideas!

In our collection, we showcase impactful designs from leading brands, organized by popular outdoor materials and trends. Natural rattan and wood, modern-looking cement, concrete and ceramics, characterful and playful metal furniture, eclectic and bohemian fabrics are all included in the selection. Our expert, Kata Hortobágyi, 0614 Design’s stylist, has compiled a list of new pieces from the past year that will inspire modern, Japandy, nomadic and eclectic designers to create their own oasis.

Rattan and polyrattan with natural effect

Rattan is made from the rattan palm. Grown in Asia and Africa, this spiny, liana-like plant is a little tricky to process, but the end result is a natural-looking, hard-wearing material that is light, flexible and absorbs paint like wood, so you can achieve a variety of looks.

Cane-line Arch

Although rattan furniture and accessories can also be found in interiors, they are predominantly pop up on terraces because of their tropical look. They are moisture-resistant and easy to clean, moreover, polyrattan is actually weathertight, so it can be placed anywhere in the garden.

Cane-line Arch, Hive

For decades, the Danish company Cane-line has been a master in the use of rattan, especially the best and strongest of the more than 600 species, Manau. Their modular Arch collection, created in collaboration with the Danish design duo Foersom & Hiort-Lorenzen MDD, is inspired by the curves of historical architecture. The hand-woven backrests of the sofa, combined with sides of different heights, add dynamism to the flexible, comfortable sofas. The teak wood and the natural-coloured weave exude warmth and a feeling of closeness to nature.

Cane-line Arch

The sculptural silhouette of the Cane-line Hive chair is a spectacular sight on its own or in an ensemble. The beehive-inspired structure allows you to think and relax undisturbed in its embrace. The hive is made of weather-resistant Cane-line Weave fabric with an artistic, woven pattern. Just as we can tailor the modular Arch sofa to our needs, we can install and use the Hive to our taste. You can have it suspended or set on a sturdy teak and aluminum base. The comfortable seat and adjustable neck cushions feature QuickDry & Airflow, which allows them to be dry again in about 1 hour after a downpour.

GUBI Bohemian 72

Bohemian 72 is a collection to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Italian artist and designer Gabriella Crespi, born in 1922. The collection is the culmination of a bohemian jet-set lifestyle, combining Crespi’s interest in natural materials, her passion for sculptural forms and her curiosity for Eastern cultures and philosophies, which she absorbed through years of travel.

GUBI Bohemian 72

The renowned designer’s aim was to create a collection of flexible rattan seating that would be at home in the city or the countryside, on the beach or the hillside, breaking down the barriers between interior and exterior, wherever it is placed. Although the use of repeated layers of vertically rolled rattan vines was unusual in its time, in retrospect it has proved to be a truly timeless and bohemian solution, which is an integral part of the elements of the collection (lounge chair, 3-person sofa, ottoman and floor lamp).

ID Design NOHR

The NOHR natural polyrattan armchair with sand-coloured cushion from ID Design exudes both stability and airiness. Its curved shape and neutral colors are perfect for minimalist, Scandinavian and bohemian style terraces.

Modern cement, concrete and ceramics

These durable materials for outdoor use can be used to achieve a wide range of effects. Concrete and cement can create classicist or brutalist compositions, for example, or sleek, modern additions - the only limit is your imagination. This is also true of the increasingly popular ceramics, which have a rich texture that evokes millennia of craftsmanship.

B&B Italia Allure O’

The Allure O’ Outdoor table retains the graceful strength of the indoor version, which can be felt in its shape and in the balance between straight lines and sinuous curves. With its rectangular tops, it can be paired with Flair O’ Outdoor chairs in two heights, or with sofas and chairs from the other families of the B&B Italia Outdoor collection.

B&B Italia Allure O’

The base frame is made of cast cement, which gives the table exceptional strength. The table top is made of concrete and brilliantly glossy glazed stone. It is hand-crafted, with the stone tiles glazed with an air blower after a slow, single firing at 250°C, a technique that gives a unique depth of color.

Baxter Keramiké

Baxter Keramiké is a range of low tables available in three sizes: the smallest is compact enough to complement a tête-à-tête corner, the intermediate size offers space for resting objects between the patio seating, and the large version offers a solid presence to furnish the garden. The mirrored surfaces of the enameled finishes in Avio, Prune and Sucre shades further enhance the range of possibilities these tables offer to live with their surroundings.

Ferm Living Flod

The streamlined, powder-coated steel frame of the Flod table creates a pleasing contrast with the warm tone and organic pattern of the ceramic tops. The latter are made using traditional hand-crafting techniques from quality clay from the River Po. The ceramic tiles are placed in the perforated frame without sealing, which allows water to drain away.

Pedrali Caementum

The Caementum is a one-piece concrete table with a central pedestal, characterized by its delicate geometry. With the addition of carefully selected additives, Pedrali has created a highly resistant material that guarantees easy cleaning, greater resistance to mechanical stresses and weathering, and low permeability to liquids.

Pedrali Caementum

The base also includes a nylon sole to avoid damaging the walking surfaces it comes into contact with, and the inside is hollow for easier maneuverability. The Caementum is particularly effective outdoors, in both public and private environments.

Playful and characterful metal

Metal is also a great choice for garden furniture because of its durability. Although at first you might think it’s cold and stark, with the right design and the application of technology, you can bring light and playful structures to life with metal.

HAY Balcony

HAY Balcony

French brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have created the elegant Balcony collection in collaboration with HAY. Featuring a wide range of chairs, tables and benches, Balcony is dominated by symmetrical holes. The presence of laser-cut holes softens the aesthetics and provides extra stability, creating a versatile collection that offers strength, comfort and a unique look. Made of powder coated steel with a weather-resistant finish, available in a variety of sizes and colors.

GUBI Satellite

Mathieu Matégot designed the ovoid-shaped lamp in 1953 in two sizes, made of perforated stainless steel sheet. Named Satellite, it was a tribute to French scientific progress after the Second World War and still holds its own today, 70 years after its birth, in interiors and on covered terraces. The Satellite pendant lamp bears the hallmark of Rigitulle, a technique and material invented by the designer himself that allows the fabric-like metal sheet to be bent into an original elongated pendant shape.

Varaschin Summer Set

Inspired by avant-garde design, the Summer Set collection includes an armchair, coffee table, pouf and chairs. The core of the furniture is a mesh structure of interlocking metal wires, available in several colors. The "bergère relax" armchair is the authentic icon of the collection, combining contemporary elegance and absolute comfort.

EMU Ficus

The Ficus collection is inspired by the shape and characteristics of the cactus. A very strong and hardy plant, able to withstand extreme environmental conditions such as heat fluctuations and water shortages. The basic module of the Emu Ficus collection is made of steel and metal, making it an excellent decoration for gardens.

Bellezza showcases the minimalist, frill-free language that defines Very Simple Kitchen’s youthful and dynamic personality, emphasizing Italian tradition and the cultural value of Made in Italy. Fornasetti Capitellum, Ara Solis

The Fornasetti 2022 outdoor collection is a mix of symbols and craftsmanship. Striking lines and subtle notes characterize the new Capitellum chair and Ara Solis table. These pieces in stainless steel take Fornasetti’s decorations in a completely new direction: the graphic symbol becomes a shape and is incorporated into the structure of the furniture as a three-dimensional element. The Capitellum outdoor chair is a reference to classical ruins, reinterpreted by the atelier in a contemporary form.

Organic wood and upholstery

Natural wood, with its timeless beauty, offers an unrivaled aesthetic experience on its own, but when combined with premium fabrics, it opens up new horizons in outdoor design. Today’s outdoor fabrics are truly built to stand the test of time, drying quickly and withstanding UV rays to retain their color for longer. Brands are often producing outdoor versions of their tried and tested indoor upholstery, with an increasing variety of patterns and weave types appearing on patios.

Baxter Himba

Baxter Himba

Playfulness and creativity run through the Himba collection, designed by Roberto Lazzeroni for Baxter. Suitable for outdoor use, the accessories are perfect for redefining the profile of your garden, patio or pool, even in the cold seasons, thanks to the sandblasted natural iroko wood and the oil coating that increases resistance. Traces of scenography and Zen art blend with the ties of Africanism.

Tribú Ukiyo

When she visited Japan, designer Monica Armani was fascinated by the signs and shapes of Japanese architecture, temples, and everyday objects of immaculate details. The curved lines, like the brushstrokes of the Japanese writing system, are precise and ethereal. This airy harmony and serene wisdom is embodied in the Tribú Ukiyo collection.

GUBI Pacha Lounge

The legendary French designer Pierre Paulin originally designed the Pacha Lounge chair in 1975 in keeping with the changing style of the era, replacing the austere post-war design with a new, dynamic approach.

GUBI Pacha Lounge Chair

This pioneered the transformation of the concept of comfort, with the proliferation of positions close to the ground or prostrate, as shown by the abandonment of chair legs. The Pacha Lounge Chair looks as contemporary today as it did when it was designed. An honest, functional piece that brings life and character to any space. With its small size, the Pacha Collection can be grouped in different combinations to suit the size of the space and the style and mood of the environment.

Available in a range of sizes, the ornate glass tops of the Pois tables designed by Marella Ferrera are handmade and unique. No two tables are the same, as the material and technique on each top results in a different pattern.

Potocco Keel

Keel chairs, armchairs and barstools are designed to achieve harmony between geometric rigor and organic lines. Keel is a name evocative of the nautical world, an attempt to find a balance between the linear structure of the metal rod and the sinuous and soft lines of the solid ash wood backrest elements. The outdoor version is made of solid Iroko wood.

Nomadic textiles and seating positions

In many areas - gastronomy, fashion and interior design - the luxury and premium segment is seeing a shift towards more relaxed, direct ways of expressing oneself, as opposed to strict adherence to rules. Nomadic style represents this more sustainable and people-oriented attitude.
